Switchboard problems

Since the switchboard is basically a form, I'm hoping this is the right place to post a question.

I have a form that I want the user to be able to open in Add Mode and also in Edit Mode, so I added both to the switchboard. But the Open in Add Mode isn't working....it should open with all fields blank and ready for entry but it displays previously entered records. I am unable to add a new one because the ->* button on the bottom is grayed out.

I deleted the entry from the switchboard and added it again, hoping for some miraculous fix, but it did nothing. Any ideas why it's opening in Edit Mode even though I specified Add Mode???



I also just noticed that when I try to change any information all ready entered in fields, I'm getting "This recordset is not updateable."

?? It worked yesterday, I can't imagine what I changed!!!

Open your table and look through your field properties, same for you form. You have something set that is not allowing new entries.

I like to use macros to control how stuff opens from a switchboard. You can easily create a macro with the OpenForm Action and then set that action's data mode to Add. You also have to specify your form in the Form Name property. You can then open the macro with the switch from the switchboard and it will in turn open the form in Add Mode. I think this will be an easy fix for you. Let me know if this works.

You know, after I posted this I read someone else saying they made their own switchboards with a blank form, that it gave them more control. So I thought I'd try it too, but still have the same problem. It must be as Autoeng suggested....I have something, somewhere set to not allow new entries. Heck if I know what, though!!

I think the setting is in the form. Check the form's properties (make sure it is the form's properties though and not the properties of an object in the form. I've gone crazy with this mistake before.) Then look in the Data tab at the following properties:

Allow Edits (set to No if you don't want users to be able to change any records)

Alow Additions (set to Yes)

Data Entry (set to Yes)

Record Locks (set to No Locks)


I hope this works. Let me know if it doesn't.

Yep, everything is set that way. (Except the allow edits, I left that as yes so she can make changes). I'll attach my database, take a look if you have a minute, maybe I'm missing something obvious.

At the start of this post, you mentioned that you had two buttons on your switchboard for this form.

Is the first one still working? (is the recordset updateable)??

One is supposed to be Add Applicant Info, the other Edit Applicant Info, but both of them are working (or not working) the same way....you can scroll through past entries but can't add new records, and can't make changes to the existing fields. So I assume it is the form, then, correct?

Had a quick squiz.

Your recordset is not updateable. You have problems with your table structure (which cause query probs and then form probs)

I recommend that you introduce primary keys to your tables (all tables as a general rule)

You will then need to recreate your relationships.

Note: I have not necessarily linked the right account in your demo to the right client. I figured it was just dummy data. You should get the idea.
