ok, I'm new to this. The table I'm working with is a data base of articles. The fields are ("author, title, volume...etc" and most importantly "keywords").

My boss wants me to program an easy way (as in anyone who knows what a computer even is) to be able to search using keywords to find a list of associated articles. (So if I type "cat" into the hypothetical search bar, every article that had "cat" listed in its "keyword" field would come up.

Further, my boss wants to be able to do this from outside of access. So a shortcut on the desktop may just open a search bar and show the results based on the chosen keyword. Then the article of choice could be opened from there.

I am using access 2007, please help.

i haven't created too many search forms so check back for other ideas.

it sounds like there will be a keyword field for every article. my first instinct is to create a keyword table instead: 1 article can have many keywords. i think searching a table would be a lot easier than parsing a string.

yes right now there is a keyword field for every article, but it works with multiple keywords (they are separated by commas). How do I make a keyword table for each article? If I do this, how do I make it so that I can search it? Is there a way to create a search icon from outside of access? Thanks

This is how i created my keyword search

Have data table.
Create form

Text Box
Button.

create query.

in criteria

Like "*" & [Forms]![Record Form]![SearchText] & "*"

you can create another form from this or a report.

hope this helps
