Having spent the last 7 years developing Access databases I'm about to take the plunge and try my hand at freelancing. Can anyone give me some idea about how much work there is out there (I'm based in Essex in the UK).

If any of you are in the same boat, where do you get your leads from?

The consulting market in the US is very difficult now. Employers want someone with expertise in several areas so as to satisfy multiple requirements.

I recently applied for a job in response to a (one day) Sunday ad in the Houston, Texas newspaper. There were 350 applicants, including Phds. and MSs in computer science applying for the job.

Accentuate you unique qualities and unique experience. You'll be a perfect fit for someone.
