Test for absence of date

Trying to put a query together where the criteria is for books that have not been returned. The returnDate field in that the criteria relates to has no default value set for it, so I thought in the criteria I could just put ' = null ' but that doesn't seem to be producing any result. There are two records in my test data that have an absence of value in the returnDate field but these arent being shown.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it

OK, figured it out. Correct syntax is ' Is Null '
