Thanks button doesn't show

Why every now and then I miss my Thanks button?

Am I using it too much?

I believe that they limit the amount of Thanks you can give in one thread.

seems that I must be more careful.
This thread has 34 posts and I gave 4 thanks.

Thanks button disappeared.

Removed one of my thanks. and the button appeared again.
It seems that there's 4 thanks limit.


Now I have to be careful not to give away thanks simply and save them. Even if I find a post helpful.
Because I may find something more helpful.

That surprises me as I'm fairly sure that jocph added thanks to every posts in several threads when using the site via an offline browser

I've just counted and you still have four thanks in that thread. Perhaps you replaced the one you deleted? Has the Thanks button disappeared again for you?

My mistake.
I had 5 thanks. Thanks button disappeared. Removed one, 4 left.
Thanks is back again.

The limit is 5 not 4.


I didn't meant to give away thanks randomly.

I think something else may be going on in your case

Just tried again.
Gave a thanks to a post in another thread. The button disappeared (immediately).
Removed the thanks and the button is back. (again immediately, without refreshing the page).

Very odd. Do the Thanks disappear from all posts or just the person you've thanked x4?

So I can test it myself, when this thread has a few more posts I'll try adding thanks to every post and then delete them again. Will let you know what happens when there's enough to test

Thanks disappears from all posts. And it doesn't need to be in a thread. If give Thanks to 5 separate posts in 5 separate threads, the button disappears.

Just tested. There are 6 posts in this thread by yourself and Jon.
I added Thanks to all 6 of them (then removed them again).

So I'm not getting the same results as you for whatever reason ...
....and clearly nor did new member jocph (nor hassanogaibi who also did mass thanks about two years ago).
Perhaps Jon has added some means of blocking massed thanks recently, but, if so, it doesn't seem to affect me as it does you

I tried to upload a mp4 file to show my problem, but the file is 2.89MB and it says it's over the allowed size.
I saved it as gif, but gif is not an allowed file type.

No need. I understand exactly what you're saying even though that limit doesn't seem to apply to me. Possibly a higher limit may apply depending on things Tony suggested or possibly its different for VIPs or mods???

Coincidentally, I notice my thanks total has gone down overnight as someone has removed Thanks from me

One would wonder who might do that. Coincidentally, vba_php has ended his ban and has posted in the Watercooler. Not saying that the two events are related, of course...

Once I asked for a Like button, because Thanks was not enough for me.
Then everyone convinced me Thanks button is enough.
Now I'm not even allowed to thank others.

Just kidding.
I'll wait another 24 hours to see if my restriction is removed.

That happens to me, but only for the post I have just thanked.?

EG, I thanked your post, so the Thanks button is removed, I cannot use it again, however, remove the Thanks and the button comes back in case I change my mind?

I thought that was a standard feature?

Edit: I manged to thank you Tera on 6 individual posts on Page 1, and then removed them.?
