Only to those who find it fun to hang on to a rope that's attached to a helium filled balloon which is larger than the average domicile...

...and those who glean some sick, twisted pleasure from watching same.

yes. Some do the whole "Let's go around the table and tell what we're thankful for this year" routine, but my family never did (personally, I find it a bit sappy,

oh jesus h christ, how embarrassing - its a joke surely, nobody can be that hypocritical, not even the Yanks surely.

Of course, when you're married, you have two families, so we usually get at least two or more dinners. Nothing sappy, nothing religious, just a friendly get-together with people you find you don't spend enough time with...and then realize why by the end of the holidays

So religion doesn't enter into it then - thats a relief for sure. I bet the religious freaks are trying to get it as a religious festival though.

Originally it was, I suppose, still is, depending upon your point of view. The Pilgrims had a festival to give thanks to their god for the bountiful harvest, invited the local indians...sappy historical story ensues. It's up to the practitioner on how much religion enters into their personal observance, just as the combination of the pagan tree with the christian observance of the birth of Christ.

he's a tit - what was he saying then - giving thanks that he sent 3,000 soldiers to their death? I don't think he's got 1 gramme of guilt about it

or was he giving thanks for the $$millions he's creamed from backhanders in the awarding of "reconstruction" contracts via his and daddies company interests

Thanksgiving isn't always the last Thursday of November, bur rather the 4th Thursday of November. This year we have five...one more to go.

you could plod through this rather grueling, fact-filled dissertation on it. I read most, seems it just kind of happened that way. Several different days were originally used, and from what I can determine, it just kind of ended up being the fourth Thursday in November

But with NFL Network airing games on Thursday nghts, they just might end up playing two.

And since Detroit started the tradition and they seem to not exist at the moment, wouldn't it seem like it's bad luck to play on Thanksgiving...poor Cowboys....
