I wonder how things change in a database by themselves. I have several system but one of our user pointed put that when she tried to open one system and preview a report and there was no data, she dismissed the dialogue bos and gets this error message. I tried to test the db and I could not replicate it in mdb but I could see the same error in the mde version. I researched on the net and looks like that there is a hot fix for the issue web page . But I could not quite understand whether this hot fix fixes this one database or it applies to all Ms Access application. Besides, I want to be sure that this works before I get our large IT team to be involved. Could experts provide some feedback on this and any alternatives I can use to dismiss the error in the mde file.

Ak,

I've only seen this when a form was corrupted.

Can you post the link?

AK,

The Hotfix states that you'll get a new version of Msaccess.exe and Msscm.dll.

That means it will work for all databases on each machine that you apply
the Hotfix to.

To get rid of the original problem:

It appears to stem from the switchboard software. Just replace the
switchboard with your own menu system. That's not really that difficult.

Thanks Wayne. I am not using switchboard to open the report. But having said that I do have a switchboard to navigate to different parts. Do you think that should still be an issue. Funny thing is not all reprts are affected. If I can have an answer as to why do I have an issue with MDE only, I might have a solution. Would you like me to email a cut doen version of MDB and MDE file?

Microsoft does not issue patches/hotfixes for individual databases, only for its own applications, in this case MS Access. So, by definition, a patch/hotfix for Access from Microsoft is going to change the way Access works with all databases.
