I started this thread in political area because since its mine, you people will probably make an argument out of it, which I don’t understand since I’m so friendly, accommodating and quite opposed to conflict.

Anyway.
I was in line at the Wendy’s tonight getting a taco salad, and it occurred to me that some people are born with honor, and others acquire it young.

So the question is: What is honor? And can someone that has been lacking in honor achieve it?

It's certainly not for her cooking skills

I have an honor of 52 on America's Army... but I had to work hard for it... and I still suck!!

I did a Google search on Wendy's as I'd never heard of it.

It said
[Wendy's]Operate a chain of 6000 restaurants worldwide

so I looked at the website and clicked on "countries" to see where they were and the only options are the USA and Canada:rolleyes:

Its obviously run by people who have no idea there are other countries in the world  - remind me again how many countries participate in the "World Series"?

You're not missing much. It's basically another McDonald's but the quality is better. The hamburgers, though, are actually worse for you.

Two. Unless you consider the fact that all the best players from the entire world come to play in the U.S. league, even from Japan, which is the only other country that actually gives baseball serious attention.

To answer your question, Joe, I would define honor (yeah, I know, I'm actually not looking it up for once) as believing in an ideal that influences you to act in a self-sacrificing manner. For example, a person with honor believes in keeping his or her word, so that person will abide by an agreement even if breaking it would be more advantageous.

Can someone without honor achieve it? Sure, at it takes is a belief change. Of course, that can be very rare and/or very difficult.

OK Kraj, I am just playing devil's advocate here is all.
So in your version of Honor, it could be said those guys that shot and killed abortion clinc doctors to save the lives of the babies while scraficing their freedom, did an honorable act?

To me honor is born and or taught. If you are raised around someone who is honorable then you could possibly learn to be honorable. Some people are just naturally honorable. It is their nature and/or personality.

To me honor is:
doing exactly as you say you are,
having and maintianing loyality (to a fault),
honesty,
living as you believe (not how others think you should live),
trust worthy, and
neither good nor evil.

As for someone without honor achieving it in the future, Why not? If the person has the will to change, then I feel they can change. I am not sure you can force honor on someone. They can appear to be, but deep down they are only acting as they are being forced to. Therefore, according to my list, I feel they are not truly honorable.

Honor is a state of being.

Ok thanks, I'm fairly sure we haven't got them in the UK.

Which two play then? USA and Canada? I think having a few foreign players doesn't really qualify it as being a "world" series - you're stretching it a bit there Kraj.

I just thought it funny that Wendy's quote 6000 outlets "worldwide" yet only list Canada and USA as the countries that have them. It just gives the impression that Wendy's management think the "world" comprises of the USA and Canada

Well Col, World Wide sounds better than Hemispheric wide.

There are Wendy's in Japan, so I'm sure they exist in other countries too, they just might not list them on their website. Maybe they have different websites for other languages?

Yes but its misleading;) in fact, they could be sued because its not true. It gives one the impression they are so popular they have outlets in every country.

Perhaps I should email Wendy's and ask them for a list of countries that they have outlets in - maybe they haven't updated their website yet.

Maybe I should just go home:D ;) its 4pm here

Col

Honour??? You guys couldn't even spell it ;-)

Wendy's is where you get a free finger in your chilli...

Good thing you've got that good ol' uncensored media over there. Did they happen to report the part where the proved she had brought the severed finger in and put it into the chilli herself?

I knew that woman was full of it from the beginning; my first job was at a Wendy's, I know how the chilli is made and the possibility that a severed finger would make its way into the batch is assinine.

Well, I imagine in their mind it was. I don't consider it honorable, but I don't believe in the ideal they do. Nor do I consider an act of murder to be self-sacrificing, whether or not you happen to die in the process.
