I'm not sure if this is possible, but i stick Carraige returns / line breaks and spaces and all sorts in my SQL to make them more human readable... but when i save and re-open, it's all reformatted and squashed back together. I can't find a setting for this in 2007 - does anyone have any tricks to get around this ?

I AM WORKING ON A SOLUTION TO THIS ANNOYING THING MICROSOFT HAS DONT, AND i WILL HAVE IT POSTED IN THE FAQ SECTION VERY VERY SOON. IF IT'S ONE THING THAT MICROSOFT IS HORRIBLE AT, IT'S MAKING EASY THING UNESSARILY DIFFICULT. LAUGHING....if you care to, watch for the faq I put up in that section to help you out with thisx.....,.

Can you stop it putting in all the extra brackets while you are at it? ;)

My workaround at the moment is to constantly copy/paste TIDY code to notepad, which i can then copy/paste back to the SQL when i need to tweak it.

Sure is annoying though !

I assume this behaviour is inherent to the way Access stores the queries - I imagine it's not storing the raw SQL, but rather, some other symbolic representation of the query that is designed to (more or less) provide consistency of view in the visual query designer, rather than the SQL view

Access appears to be rebuilding the SQL on demand, from whatever symbolic version it has stored internally - although it also appears to rebuild the visual query designer view too sometimes - for example, if you have a complex assortment of and/or criteria, their function should be preserved, but there's no guarantee the layout will look the same next time you see it.

Very simular question here

with my magic solution in that thread...

hey mail delivery boy, I think he really wants something dummy proof, which is what I would like as wlel. I think i'll make something and post it in the FAQ section so people can use it. that's a good idea

Anything to do with/ anyone looking at the direct SQL is going to be more than your average dummy...
