The Twilight Zone had a time travel story where a person in the U.S. had an opportunity to go back in time and kill Adolf Hitler. He accomplishes that task but upon returning to our time he is immediately arrested by Nazi police. The Germans won WWII.
There was once a very humorous short story, which I cannot remember beyond the punch line. An inventor is told to invent a time machine because they are at war with an enemy. He accomplishes that task. He tells his King that he turned the secret plans over to the enemy. The King of course turns livid. The inventor explains that time can't be changed. The simple act of turning on the time machine will trigger a very large nuclear like explosion.
