Regarding your enquiry the new data, in my experience, does become the default in the combobox.

Access 2000 (ADO) example attached.

I tested it again and you are right it did add it as the value in the field. The problem is which I hadn't noticed before is once the value is added it goes to the next record.

For example, if I am on record 1 and add a new value into the combo box . . . once I close the msgbox . . . the form goes to record 2.

Any suggestions?

Have you set your form's Cycle property to CurrentRecord rather than AllRecords?
