Too Many Active Users

Hi Again guys,

I have a database application, front end on the local machines, back end on a server (it happens to be a mac server, but still works). Recently we upgraded to Access2007 on all systems, but left the backend in 2000 format. Ever since then we have been having issues with our users getting told "Too Many Active Users" when they try and access the backend. If all users disconnect and the reconnect it seems to be fine for a while, then after sometime it does it again. I assume it has something to do with the ldb file on the backend. It worked fine in 2003, now I am stumped. It possibly has something to do with permissions but I have no idea what.

I'm going to ask a silly question - since all users have A2007, why don't you upgrade the backend as well?

Ok, tried that, when I tried to refresh the lnks to the tables using Linked Table Manager it gave me a error saying something like "MS access does not support linking to and Acess database or Excel workbook saved in a format that is later than the current format"

All was done on the same computer, any ideas what is going on?

I used the convert database facility in access and the db (backend) is accessible as a stand alone, but won't let me link to it.

Anyone seen this before?

What format is the front end in?

I don't really have any good suggestions for you, but your problem has validated my fears of upgrading - I am sticking with 2003 as long as they will let me! What happens when you try to create a new link to the backend (as opposed to refreshing an existing link)?

Nope, I'm afriad that still doesn't work, is this some sort of bug in Access2007? Anyone else have any problems like this?

Have you tried making new front and backends and exporting everything into them? Seems like a lot of work, but if its still not working maybe its worth a shot?

In that case try converting the BE to A2003 format if that is the format of the FE

Sorry to be away so long. The normal file extension for A2007 is .accdb NOT .mdb so even if you created the file with A2007, if you created it as an .mdb it is NOT an A2007 database. It is an A2K or AXP/A2003 format depending on what you chose.
