too many "can grow"s

I have a report that is in a letter format ie. it has an address on the top right and another address lower down on the left. Both have a multi line text box to accomodate however many lines the address has. My problem is that when the right hand text box grows - it sends the left box down too -- they dont seem to work independently. Can these boxes be pinned down in any way so that one can overtake the other as it were instead of running in tandem.
I probably should say that i need the lower of the two addresses to stay where it is to fit into a window envelope.
