That's correct. Neither Bob nor I knew what you were using the public variable for so hence answered your questions about it - good learning anyway . But it is unnnecessary using the criteria option in the openform command.

Regarding Edited Record, if you press F1 (help) on that property line you will get a full explanation of each option. But put simply, Edited Record just locks the records. If another form or another person tries to edit the record, it will appear locked and they won't be able to edit. There's also a "no locks" option if you want to live dangerously.
