Trying to add a record???

I have a table that has been working fine for the last 2 mo. It is a list of employees, when we have a new hire, I add them, when there is a termination, I delete the record.
There are 3 records, Emp Number, Name, and Department.

Now I tried to add some new hires. After I put in the num, name, and dept, I hit enter and it adds a duplicate record of what I just typed! What's going on? So I select the second one to delete, and it deletes both records???

Does anyone know what is going on here? I don't think I changed any settings or anything. Please help.
 
One possibilty...

Go into your table.. not the form... and go to the last record, as though you were to add a new one... What you might see if this is autonumber is that ID value it shows is lower then the last record...

If this is the case, I suggest you create a new table, appand all records from the whole table to the new one, then adding records should work fine....

If this is the problem. I personally auto increment all my indexes myself now since encountering this problem 3 times....
