Two Hopefully Simple questions

I have a db split into fe and be, run on a server. In another forum I was advised to unbound both my main form and the boxes there in.

I need to know how....

I can call up and existing record from the table, and filling all the feilds with data from that ONE record...

and....

How I can save a new record back to the table...

Have done a shearch here but not got very far with it...
Please help if you can.... Cheers

This can be a large undertaking, for the first time.
Normally, you make an Access form and base it on a table or
query. This is a bound form and Access will handle all of
the manipulation and updating of the data.

If you make an unbound form that is not based on a table or
query. Then you (your code) inherits all of the work required
in manipulating the data.

You will need a search command button to retrieve data based
on criteria. That button will use a recordset to retrieve
the record(s) matching the criteria. Your code will move the
data from the recordset to the "UNBOUND" controls on your form.
When the data is changed your code will use recordsets to move
the data from your unbound controls back to the recordset.

If you are undertaking this effort because someone suggested
that it would be "nice", that may not be enough reason.

If you search here for "unbound forms" you will see some of
the problems/questions that people have had.

Well perhaps I caught the wrong end of the stick.... Is is that if I have un-bound fields in my datatbase rather than an un-bound form?? I need to speed things up a bit, and the reply I had implied that opening forms based on a table over a network was the slowest way of doing things....

To give more detail...

It is an Access Database for a Drug and Alcohol Re-hab unit.. dealing with about 30 main form (Client) entries.. and 200 subform (what happened) entries a day...

Running over a NT / XP server based network for about 20 users..

db is split into fe and be (fe running on the local client) be on the Server...

it takes about 7 mins to update after every single entry...

My original posting in General under more speed, offered up... Don't have any forms based on a table??? So hence this latest question...

I am really a Pascal programmer.. the original db fe was writen in Vis Basic.. but had many, many problems running on a mixed server.. so I turned it back it a pure Access .... Now after going live with it.. mutli user.. speed has go down.. though the db does what they want... so speeding it up is now the next priority..

In short.. I have learnt never again to do a favour for a mate.. but still need to resolve this speed issue...

Any ideas would be of great help...
