My PC has Access 2002 installed, and a shortcut to Access 2007, which has been installed but very rarely used.

Intending to launch Access 2002, I recently by accident hit the shortcut to 2007, which for some reason entered an Access 2007 installation window. I aborted the installation with cancel.

Now, for some reason, when I launch 2002 (either directly at the .exe file or with a shortcut or via an mdb filename), the first thing that opens is a generic-looking "Windows Installer" window with message "Preparing to install". If I hit Cancel, this window closes and Access 2002 opens and runs normally.

How can I fix this, so the unneeded Windows Installer window is not launched?

Thanks

You can't avoid this, because 2002 and 2007 have different files associated with them. Once the installation processes start, you are committed. Then to change back, you have to go back through the process again for the version you are opening.

It is called the Access 2007 coffee break! ;)

Glad I'm not the only one with this.

Although eventually I find they both stop working correctly.

I don't know why Microsoft did this.

The help system seems to take a hit on occation when switching back and forth. A repair install fixes it.
