Update field based on table

Hopefully I can explain myself right.

I have a table Student_Table set up with information about students...ID, name, DOB, etc.

I then have a separate table Visit_Table where they will enter information...date, visit type, etc....about the visits a student makes.

On the Visit Form, which populated the Visit Table, they select a Student_ID from a drop down menu. However, this ID number means little to most people and they would rather see a name.

What is the best way to do this? I was thinking once they select the Student_ID, to have Student_Name appear in a box next to it. But I'm not sure how to do this....and maybe that's not the best solution.

One method that I have used is including the name (first & Last) in the combo box with the ID, just for display purposes. Then when they click on the down arrow, they can select the ID based on the name right next to it. THe ID is stored and displayed in the field, and the name is not.

If you need the name to stay apparent, you could create text boxes for those fields and populate them based on the entry in the ID field. See this thread in today's active topics for how to do this.
