Hello. I have a table with 8 fields and 3,500 records. Each record will always have data in all but two fields: Date and Desc.

Example:

Date - Desc - Month - Number- ......

1/1/02 - AMT - June - 850
- June - 850
- June - 850
- June - 850
7/1/02 BMT - June - 850
- June - 850
8/1/02 - CMT - June - 850
- June - 850
- June - 850
9/1/02 - AMT - June - 850

Is there way to update the records that don't have Date or Desc with the data from the first record in the series?

Question: the records that don't have Date or Desc, what is in the first two fields then? Is the Month and Number data in the first two fields or are they correctly placed in the 3rd and 4th fields?

The first two fields are empty. They need to be filled with the Date and Desc from the first record in the series.

I would write some VBA code to handle this. First, add an autonumber field to a copy of the database. The order of the records is very important. Then I'd open the table copy as a recordset, check where the blank date and desc fields are and copy them from the appropriate place.
