Using Windows Image Acquisition object (wia) - A97

I'm trying to add image scanning to an Access 97 application - it is running under XP, so trying to use(or even install) the Kodak/Wang imgscan.ocx has been a complete nightmare.

I've not had much more success with Microsoft's WIA object - it installs and registers OK, I can drop the object on a form, but after saving the form and reopening it, I get 'there is no object in this control'.

Can anyone help?
