Validation Rule

I have a validation rule on my subform that says If the number keyed in is greater than the number on the main form, an error message comes up. This has been working for a week now then all of a sudden it doesn't?? It will work if I key in the number 1 or if I key in greater than 9. Has anyone ever had something strange like this happen??

Here is the validation rule that is not working.

<[Forms]![frmAddtoCookingandPeeling-Port au Choix]![SmallRemaining] Or =[Forms]![frmAddtoCookingandPeeling-Port au Choix]![SmallRemaining]

I tried using the > sign and tested this and that worked. It's almost like the subform is not recognizing the < sign....!!
