Are there any issues with converting an older 97 database to 2003? Is it a straight conversion, or will there be differences that affect the way the database will run if converted? I've read somewhere that it is possible to use the newer version to open the database w/o converting it. It seems silly to have to install 97 on a new computer in order to view the db.

Depends on how much homemade code you are using.

Access 2003 will not let you over write the Access 97 file when converting. Just in case, make a copy. Go for, convert it and move forward. I doubt you will have any issues.

One idea i want to say.

You can separate your database to two file.

1.) Only have table for save data only. (use Access 97 version.)
2.) Including all of information except the table, then the table use "link table" linkup old verion(Access 97) file. This file you can make several version. such as access 97, 2000 or 2003.

For what it is worth I have done the change 97, 2000 then 2003. In my opinion 97 was ok, 2000 not so good and 2003 great. Backup your 97 files just in case you don't like 2003. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Hi AN60,

Case 1.)
If this database is for one user to use only and without share to other user.

Case 2.)
If this database need to share to other user. exp. In one company have several computer which install different access version.

If in the case 1 the answer is worthlessness.

If in the case 2 that I think is worth, you can open the database whatever the version is 97, 2000 or 2003. do you agree ?
