hi guys, just a quick one, i've done a search but can't find what i'm looking for, this is for my business database, i would like my form to be able to allow duplicates, but when a duplicate is entered, it will alert me with a pop-up or message, but still allow the data to be enetered... is there a way i can make this happen....

thanks very much :)

If duplicate data is entered and you allow it, why do you need to know if a previous entry exists?

thanks for the reply Col....

it's quite complicated but in short, the service i offer allows a customer to use a friend or relatives bank account, i would like to add notes to the form if the account is also being used by someone else, i would like to be alerted of this rather than run a query etc, any help would be greatly appreaciated

in the after update of the bank account # field(or whatever field you want)
If DCount("*", "yourtablename", "bankaccount=me.bankaccount"> 0 Then
MsgBox "That account is already in use", vbOKOnly
Else
End If

thanks rainman, i'll give it a try, excellent :-D
