Anyone know where I can get a free or cheap copy of Visual Basic 6 studio on the internet??

There was a link to a cheap site on this thread although, from the context of the thread, I believe their were restrictions on purchasing.

Saying that: is VB6 still on sale?

Nobody selling on eBay?

I found a copy of VB6 Professional on Half.com (another Ebay site) for $50. When I saw that, I snagged it. So, you can keep looking there as well.

Question: Why the search for VB6? Why not just moving onto VB.NET? Most OS support the .NET 1.1 Framework and those that don't only require a simple download....

I can think of one. Cost. If I hadn't won my copy of Visual Studio.NET I wouldn't have bought it yet as I can't afford it.

$50 for a program that works just fine for most applications is a good trade off for spending $549 for the upgrade program or $1079 for the full version of VB.NET Pro or $1600 for Visual Studio.NET.

Well thats true I can just get the .net version, its a book I need for my VB class thats all, plus it will help me with my database projects. Thank you everyone

If your still a student then go a little further and get Visual Studio.NET 2003 Pro which has development tools for VB.NET, C#.NET J.NET, ADO.NET, i.e. the whole enchalada!

As a student you can get the Visual Studio.NET pro version for a whopping $95 US. As Bob pointed out, this program would usually cost $1,799 of the Microsoft site but for students is CHEAP! and this site is sponsored by Microsoft (they have links to it from their website) so its all good and legal (no knock-off software).

If you willing to spend $50 US on a previously used copy of VB6 why not spend an extra $45 and get the new version PLUS all the other development tools...?

I do like Kevin_S's idea (and that's what I would do in your place), but if you don't like that route then try used book stores! When I took VB in school I got a working copy with my textbook (VB 6 - How to Program - Deitel & Deitel). I know that the help files were absent and probably some more advanced features that I never needed.

At one point, I was considering buying something like this:http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0735619069/103-4893344-3173401 or if you want to add ASP to the mix http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0735618143/103-4893344-3173401 which both come with (according to their boxes) a full version of VB.net (minus the help files).
