Recently Installed Software: BitDefender Internet Security 2012 and LiveDrive
Web browsers: IE9,Chrome and Firefox
Modem: Virgin media bog stock
Router: Belkin N+

Within the last week, usually during the evening, the connection keeps dropping so I am unable to load Google or any other website. Sometimes this can be rectified by re-booting my laptop.

According to my Network and Sharing centre I have a strong live connection. My router also says or rather displays that I am connected, verified by the constancy and colour of the appropriate lights. My wife can continue to use the internet on her iphone via wifi, verified by her settings, and not 3G, and my son has uninterrupted use on his laptop. I have tried pinging the bbc website from the laptop with an average 24ms send and receive result.

Can anyone please suggest the cause and possible resolutions?

Thanks very much

All browsers having the same problem ? that's odd. But try checking Antivirus and firewall settings and/or uninstalling it.Or try installing a USB wireless adapter if you have one.

I haven't got an adapter but perhaps I'll get one. The problem only seems to occur in the evening, would it be anything to do with my ISP restricting Bandwidth?

Well, restriction is one. That is if during at night the traffic increases. You know, BUSINESS. :)

But try asking some of your friends with the same ISP, if they do have the same issue, then try calling your ISP company.

The contention could be caused by congestion not here but elsewhere (doing DNS lookups).

Ping also needs -n to repeat itself - better to use speed checker

1) Check if there are any rubbish toolbars.
2) Check Broadband speed checker - do regularly
3) Turn-off Bit-Defender to see if this makes a different I know AVG and Kaspersky slow down connectivity.
4) Firefox has some tweaks about:config -pipelining
5) Check to see what your son is doing on the internet!

Hi, I have been experiencing the same issues with my service during the evenings, but as far as I know, I am the only person using my ISP, so I am not sure it can be due to congestion. Were you able to figure out a fix for this? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
