I run a small business, have been trading for around 13 years and often resort to the forums for tips, tricks and advice regarding a heafty Access application that i commissioned to be built some 7 years ago and currently maintain.

The Access application currently "runs" my entire business, so when it comes to building software i am fairly proficient.

My problem is that i don't know anything about SQL or web based applications but have for the last 2-3 years have been sitting on an idea for a website that could be VERY lucrative and which i realistically think could rival the likes of Freinds Reunited, or Even Ebay globally.

So far I've invested £10,000 with a local(ish) developer who has attempted to turn my vison into a reality with a reasonable degree of success, but he hasn't avoided some quite obvious and in my opinion trivial pitfalls which now exist as glitches in the site. Although the idea in principal is sound the work that has been done so far is full of small "holes" which combined make it unusable by the general public. The main problem is that the current developer quoted on a fixed price basis (which is what i want) but has underestimated the work involved. Therefore he is now treating the project as "second class" work and isn't dedicating time or effort to ensuring it's correct completion. During the build it has also become apparent that he is either unable or unwilling to build exactly what i have in mind, his interpretation being too unstable and too complicated for users to cope with.

S0...I'm looking at either moving the project to another company/developer or my second and preferred choice is to hire a web developer to work on this "in house" so that i can be more directly involved at each step of the build. Ideally i'd like a developer to take the project over in it's current state (80-90% complete) rebuilding from there, accepting that advice/help with longer term hosting & maintenance is also required.

I'm interested in talking to anyone local to Northampton who wants to get involved in what would be a new venture financed and owned by myself but offering them the potential of a very lucrative career or possibly a small share holding in something with real potential for making serious money. (I would stress that i have run this past colleagues, accoutants, solicitors and formed a company which has gained data protection registration, so it is more than a fantasy or hobby!).

As far as i can make out (again, not being web minded) the required skills would be ASP.NET, ASP, XHTML & CSS, Javascript, MySQL, SQL Server and ideally AJAX.

If anyone out there has the ability, is looking for a chance to get in on something with great potential i'd be interested to hear from you.

Vince you seem to have mixed a whole lot of skills in there. Generally dynamic data driven websites are built around one technology and associated stuff. So for example you would have an asp site or a php site. Never a good idea to mix and match the two imho.

If interested can give you contact details for an Aussie web designer who can bring a team onboard your project. They are web 2, css, etc proficient and have worked in the past on projects using both the Microsoft tools, and php tool ends of the market, for both medium and small business.

If interested drop me a pm and can pass on her email address. Not sure of her availability as the last time I talked to her she was on the verge of signing onboard one heck of a huge project over in the states.

Thanks so far

Thanks for your reply.

I have slightly ammended to text from the starting point of "not knowing what the heck i was doing!).

If you'd like to send me her details then i would at least contact her to see what her current position is.

I have sent you my email address in a PM.

Regards,

Vince.
