I was using Access 97... my database was 7,254 KB...I converted to Access 2000 and it went from 7,254 KB to 68,252 KB! I compressed and repaired...then converted it back to 97...it didn't change a bit...I really want the database to be Access 2000...but I don't want it to be so big.

I have converted a number of applications from 97 to 2K and in almost all cases they get smaller, sometimes less than 50% their original size. All are split databases. I see a greater shrinkage in the front end than the back end tables, but both show some decrease. Something else must be going on in yours.

I am in a similar posistion in that I have been trying to convert from 97 to 2000 and the databases in 2000 are somewhat larger than in 97. Also the databases take longer to run, the application I've converted takes about 1 hour to run in 97 but takes over 2 hours in 2000. I've tried changing the recordsets from DAO to ADO and this only makes it even slower.

Anyone got any posible solutions out there?

In another thread, someone suggested a DECOMPILE option for all modules. By any chance, do you have a large set of modules?

Try the DECOMPILE option if you can find it. I don't use AC2K yet because the rest of the office staff is on Office 97. But we're getting there!
