Where did HELP go?

This has to be a dumb question. My visual basic help seems to be gone. I get the help dialog box but if I look for a specific topic, I get nothing. Example: I can enter "Openrecordset" in the search index window. It appears to search for the method, etc - but, if i click on it there is nothing there.
What did I do? And, please, how do I undo it? Thanks now for the inevitable help that always comes from the great folks here.

You're not alone. Many of us have suffered through the same sorts of ups and downs with Access Help that you describe. First thing you might try: find your Office CD and repair your Office installation. Depending on your version of Access, you might be able to initiate this from the Help pull down menu where there is a "Detect and Repair" selection.

Regards,
Tim

Version etc

I am using Access2000 (Office Professional2000); Windows XP, visual basic is 6.0
I have tried reinstalling, adnauseum

billy,

Access Help has become context sensitive.

If you want VBA help, you have to be in the Code Window. If you want
Query help, you have to be in the Query Design, etc.

Is that it?

I am trying to use Help while in the VB editor.

Billy,

Are you using the miserable Office Assistant Guy?

Do the Contents & Index parts work?

Wayne

help also accesses the internet. maybe it's disabled in your registry.

Wayne, the index appears to work - in that it will appear to perform a search. Clicking on the search result yeilds nothing.
Modest, how can I check to see if it is enabled and if not, how do i enable it?

Told you folks this was a dumb one.

before we go into that... first, i'd like to know if you have any references clicked. i was doing some reading about this.

Yes Modest, I have several references checked. This is a relatively old application I am modifying. IE DAO

on your "Start" menu, click "run"

type C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033\Msohelp.exe /REGSVR32

if that doesn't work type
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\1033\Msohelp.exe" /REGSVR32

Tried it.

Hi Modest. I tried it. No change that I can see. The index function will search and find results. If i click on any access topic in the results, I get nothing.

delete this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\HelpViewer

after you delete it, get out of regedit and press ctrl+alt+delete and make sure all your office programs are closed (access,excel,pwpnt,..etc) and then try running access again and doing it

Thanks Modest - I delted the key. Help is still the same. I really do appreciate your help and patience.

Try and use the Internet Explorer Repair Tool because the search is based off of html.

In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs

Click Internet Explorer and Internet Tools and click Add/Remove (which should bring up the maintenance setup window)

Click Repair Internet Explorer and click OK.

If the above doesn't work... this is what microsoft suggests:

Code:
Remove and Reinstall Help
If Help still does not work correctly, run the Office Setup program in Maintenance Mode and remove Office.
1. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
2. Click Office 2000 and click Add/Remove. This puts you into Maintenance Mode Setup.
3. Click Remove Office in the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box.
4. Click Yes to confirm that you want to remove Office.
5. Use Windows Explorer to rename the following four files to completely remove HTML Help.

In Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me:

   File Name Location
   --------- ------------------
   Hh.exe C:\Windows
   Hhctrl.ocx C:\Windows\System
   Itircl.dll C:\Windows\System
   Itss.dll C:\Windows\System

In Windows NT 4.0:

   File Name Location
   --------- -----------------
   Hh.exe C:\Winnt
   Hhctrl.ocx C:\Winnt\System32
   Itircl.dll C:\Winnt\System32
   Itss.dll C:\Winnt\System32

6. Run Office Setup again to install Office 2000.

What next?

Well Modest, I have removed Office and renamed those files and reinstalled Office. I still have the same problem. Thanks for your continued support and concern. I am open to any other ideas.

I've tried posting this all day, but our company's changing it's proxy... so we were set up on a temporary server and the internet was REALLY slow (most of the time it was not available).

View the attached image.
Pay attention to the following:

msohelp.exe
all the *.chw
all the *.chm
all the *.hlp

Please make sure they're listed in your folder:
C:\Program Files\Office 2000\Office\1033

(hard drive and folder names may be different depending where you installed it,but they must be in your office folders..make sure they're not in your system folder)
