Who is making my backups

I notice that you are compacting every day. Don't forget that Access will make a backup before doing the Compact. Maybe thats where the backups are coming from.

Compact creates temporary copies with names like db1.mdb which it deletes when the compact completres successfully. This sounds more like either an error backup or a background task running in the background.
