Why are records not in order??????

Hi - really confused

In my table my records show in a logical order...numbered by an autonumber as my primary key. However when i scroll through these records on a form they are displayed in a seemingly random order. when i berform a search (through a combo box) the order of the numbers is also muddled up on the drop down list?? can anyone help??

Have you got the orderby property of the form set to the field that you want your form ordered by.

eg. [IDNumber]

That may sort out the form.

I just put
'OrderID' in the orderby property

Am i missing a bracket or something?

The comboBox order is set by going into the query behind the ComboBox (click on the box with the 3 little dots on it ...), then set the sort order in the same way as a normal query.

Tried the [orderID] .. and nothing seems to have happened!!

then i tried looking at the combo box ...but couldn't see an 'order by' option.... so couldn't find the 3 dots.........

am i missing something too obvious for anyone to mention!!!??

For the combo box it is assumed that your are getting the data from a Table/Query.

If you click on the row source of the combo box you will see the three dots at the right hand end.
Then in the query there is a sort.

Hi Again

Ok - with the ComboBox, - go into the Combo properties and put the curser in the "Row source" line. To the right of the row source line there should be a little box with 3 dots on it. Click on that little box and you get the underlying query up. Define your sort order there (for the ComboBox not the form)

Form Ordering

Sorry ... Just had a look at that and you need to put

in the order by property of the form

yourformname.orderID

just like that ... That should sort out the form and then using col's method should sort out the combo boxes.
