I have done this before but it does not seem to happen again. I have established relationships between tables before. When I am trying to do it now ( a year later) I do not see to be able to tick the boxes 'enforce referential integrity, cascade Update related fields, and cascade delete related fields. They seem to be disabled.

What am a forgetting to do ? Many thanks.

I can't say for sure, but if the tables have data that does not conform to the rules of referential integrity then may be that is why.

Hi Bob,

I have emptied both the Particulars table and the BarthelIndex table and still i cannot mark enforce referential integrity, etc.

I wonder what could have gone wrong !

Many thanks.

Louis

Can you attach a copy of your db. If you are using A2007 or A2010 you will need to convert it to A2002/3 format (mdb) otherwise I will be unable to open it.

How do I go about it ? do I send it via this forum ? I will have to empty the tables as information with regards to patients is confidential.

Click the Go Advanced button below the box in which you type your reply there is an area called Additional Options. Click the Manage Attachments button.
In the window that opens, click the Browse button and select the db to be attached.
Click the Upload button, which will actually attached it.
If you preview your post, you should ba able to see the attachment.

Many thanks for your help. Actually both table Particulars and tabel Barthel have a primary key. The primary key on Particulars is the idcardno and that on Barthel is ID. I am trying to establish a relationship between the two based on idcardno on Particulars and idcard no on Barthel. A one-to-many relationship is established but the enforce referential integrity rule is not enabled and cannot be filled in. I have emptied both tables to see whether there are date which are incompatible but to no avail. I am sorry I tried to send my database to Bob but the front end is too big and wont 'flow'. Any clues... ?
