I am purchasing the vista home premium or ultimate this week, i am getting the oem version from newegg with the win 7 coupon. My question is will it solve vista memory usage issues, the windows 7 rc that i have is fast and runs efficiently, however in ancient times when i used the upgrade option from 98se to xp, it was kinda crappy had 98se problems and xp problems. I put the service packs on my cousins computer , and vista is still a bit of a resource hog, anyone in the know?

I can't answer your question specifically as YES but I can say that I've enjoyed running Win7 much more than Vista. But my general sense from all the reviews I've seen from various people and my own (non scientific) experience, has it as very likely that issues you have with Vista may be resolved. The only downside I've seen so far is that it can be challenging to get drivers but that is rapidly diminishing.

Does anyone know if they still force all the security garbage on you in Windows 7? My biggest complaint about Vista early on was the poorly thought out security scheme. I was able to disable it and now Vista is only slightly worse than XP. Will I have to jump through security hoops in Windows 7?

It is MUCH better in Win7. You still get some, but nowhere near the amount that happened in Vista.

I agree with Bob in that Win7 is much better, and unless something has changed I was under the impression that even with an upgrade version of the OS you could do a clean install, the upgrade simply did not include a product key so you had to use your old windows OS installation key.

I also agree. Windows 7 is by far a huge improvement over not only Vista, but XP. It actually runs faster on my laptop than XP every did.

Hey and Vassago, welcome back to the ranks of the mods. :D

Also, this being a Windows question, it's been moved to the proper area.
