Hi,
I put grid lines on a doument I was working on. Now it shows up every time I open a blank document. I can't fine where to remove it. Can anybody help.

I have not used 2010 but in earlier versions you would change the design of the normal.dot or normal.dotm template.

Default location is:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

It is a hidden folder.

Thanks for trying to help. In this new Win 7 I could not find documents and settings like in older OS. After much searching I found the answer to my problem answer: click page layout >click align > uncheck view gridlines. Once you find something then it’s easy. Of course help menu’s very little help. I typed in remove gridlines and it gives me remove languages and fonts, and a bunch of unrelated things.

The easiest way I can think of to get to your normal.dot file is to open a blank document (which now has grid lines) and turn off the grid lines. When you exit the document, Word should ask you if you want to save the changes to normal.dot.

I'm no expert, but I think that should work. Good luck

Strange to post a suggestion like that after the OP posted back with the correct way to do it and it was nowhere near what you posted. Did you look at the last post on 7/24? It would be one thing to almost post simultaneously but this was over a week ago...<roflmao>

So sorry. I did not notice the date. It was at the very top of the list when I opened the forum, so I thought it was new.

I read it quickly, but understood that he was having trouble finding his normal.dot template. A lot of the users at my workplace are unable to navigate folders outside the ones in their own My Documents area. All I did was suggest an easy way to get to it. My copy of Word asks me whether I want to change the normal.dot file everytime I change the formatting in a document around.

Anything I did was in an earnest attempt to be helpful. Why the heavy-handed response?

Sorry if you think it was "heavy-handed." It was a question trying to elicit thought that it is good to read closely and look closely at things so you don't do something that you might regret later. Paying close attention to details can be a good thing which can keep potentially embarrassing postings to a minimum.

That being said, I certainly have suffered embarrassingly silly postings myself because I didn't pay close attention to what was happening. I guess, I called attention to it to help you in the future not do the same mistakes I have made.

It was a minor mistake, if it was a mistake at all. It works for me quite often.

I suspect that you are just having a bad day. And, I hope it gets better.

Not having a bad day at all, but you did post to a week old thread and the OP had said they had the answer they needed. So, regardless, you posted an answer to a question that was not really asked.

I won't bother you again - so don't worry about it.
