Is it possible to open a word document and/or to open a folder from a button in access??

If you mean "how do you open a window to a folder?" you have to launch Windows Explorer to the folder. I've never tried that from Access. Why do you need to do this? What were you planning for your users to do within this window?

I presume the OP wants to have the Word file open interface activated so the user can select the file to open.

Lanason, I'd be using automation to open an instance of Word and having the vba execute the appropriate Word code. You can search web or this forum for examples.
