I am reluctantly using Access XP. I need to requery a subform from the main form (parent).

Would you believe that the words subform and requery are not in the Help Index!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talk about 2 steps backwards.

Then in VBA code, the BUILD option has been removed. So looking around in the shortcut menu I found COMPLETE WORD that brought up a list of options including the forms I have created in the dB with the exception of the subforms.

For example I have a form 'frmSinger_List' but the choice displayed is 'Form_frmSinger_List'. That makes no sense to me.

My subform is frmSinger_List-sub but this is not displayed in the list.

If anyone wants to comment that this environment is worse or better than Access97 let me know. It is driving me crazy!

I have found the Access 97 help system to be really excellent compared to the Acccess XP system, just like you have. The index has almost nothing in it. The Answer Wizard thing never gets the answer to my questions. I have two computers and I often use the Access 97 machine when I need to find help on something.

If you're still having issues with your original problem, to requery a subform from the mainform, the general syntax is this:
Me.subform_name.Form.Requery

dcx693 Greetings!

I got the subform syntax, my error was in assuming that the name of the subform was the name I should use, I found out with the BUILD in Access97 that the main form uses the property name of the subform control instead.

I ws wondering, can a guy somehow import Access97 Help into XP. I have found many more problems with XP Help.

Hmm.....don't know. I suppose you could try naming your Access 97 help files the same as the Access 2002 files and placing them in the Access 2002 directory. Good luck with that if you try! I have no idea what side effects that might cause.

Take a look at this thread for some ideas. I also keep A97 help files handy. I have A97 installed, but you can just open the help files directly, you don't need to open Access first.

Another reason why access sucks...you actually need to get help finding help...
thats pathetic!

BTW where's the thread?

I edited the post to add the link. Yes it is pathetic to need help to use help. The only solution is to send email to Microsoft complaining about the problem. I have.

Use this link:
Contact Us at Microsoft

It took me a long time to find this page. It is well hidden, so put it in your favorites.

LOL broken link...

Must be too many people trying to complain at once:)

I know I just did.

They prolly dump this crud into the garbage...
Hopefully they will read it.

Pat,

The link worked for me but I have not used it yet. XP Help totally crashed and an Option Box I added failed to perform.

I am going to reinstall Access XP and see if I gain any improvement.

Well Pat, I sent a copy of my latest lament to the Redmond crew. I hope my PCs don't blow up in the next few days!
