I've researched this (and apologise if it's a stupid question ), but it seems that this error message:

"You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time"

should only appear if I have multiple users trying to change it. This is just a school assignment, and no one else uses my computer. This is Access 2010.

Would just copying and pasting the file to a different location on my computer work?

This is the error message

I just copied and pasted this to another location, and the problem went away.

When you say you copy and paste to another location and it went away. Are you speaking of the actual database? I'm experiencing this problem as well

He meant just going into file explorer and copying the file to another location. I was having this same problem and I copied my database file from my flash drive to my desktop by dragging and dropping on file explorer.
