I have this somewhere - If I find it I will ping you with it -

the album (first one ) is great the second one is really very good but over priced -(UK price at £23.00)

check out his live versions of the 80's classics- if you like acoustics then have at look at this (no singing just acoustic)

another good cover is

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-wHb-StkUQ

get to the site and check the other covers he does
a bit upbeat and a nice interpretation of a classic song - decent vocals for the song

at the moment I am into people doing decent covers of orginals -
they range from 60-now male/female - but mainly acoustic

there are a lot of crap songs out there at the moment - but some of the covers done in my opinion are better than the orginal - I am listening to some crazy dutch guy at the moment - super talented - but very Dutch

I actually think there's a lot of good contemporary stuff out there...

The method of making money from music seems to be subtely changing and a lot of people seem to making there money from the actual performances rather than selling the music so much. Its difficult to tell how this will affect things..

But some good stuff that I've discovered...

.. (great lyrics) Raine Maida

I like this as well (Ben Kweller)

Punk ain't dead either(Long live the HIVES)

and finally something probably less likely to appeal to possible the more mainstream some scottish electronica - Unicorn Kid ( a 17 year old from Leith) I think they call this chip electronica - made from sounds you get sampled out of those little casio keyboards and old video games

Here are some suggestions not all are available to listen:

A Feather on the Breath of God - Abbess Hildegard of Bingen

Officium - Jan Garbarek & The Hilliard Ensemble

L'Arpeggiata

Philip Glass Violin Concerto

A little diversion on a lighter note:

Wagner's Ring

Don't worry you won't have to sit through 21 hours or so, Anna Russell has conveniently condensed it to under 25 minutes in 3 Parts

PDQ Bach Beethoven's Fifth?

This one is currently used for an ad but the original dates back to about 1713:

And one should not forget Richard Strauss Eulogy reflecting on his life:

You would need an entire thread if we started on J S Bach but here are a couple:

Glenn Gould - Goldberg Variations

Christmas Oratorio - John Eliot Gardiner
