I need some help in setting up front end in a database I've split. I've spent several hours reading through the archives here and on google and I haven't been able to figure this out.

I have split my database and have a backend and my front end. There are 2 users. How do I copy the front end? Just cut and paste? If I do that, when I try to edit the front end I need to use (my section should not have access to ALL of the forms) it takes out those forms from the other users copy of the front end also. She needs to have all of the forms and reports. I just need some of them and can't have access to all of them. I have been told that I can control access based on a login with windows usernet but wasn't able to find info on that.

We use a Windows Server 2008 as a file share server and have it saved on the server right now. I have my copy of the front end saved on my local directory.

Please help. :(

is that the best way to do it? with user recognition? can't you set it up to have 2 different (same but modified) front ends?

You can have, say, a DataEntry front end and an Administrator front end, but the way i've mentioned means that any changes you make that everybody needs to see only have to be made once.

Additionally, if you later find there's a third user type, you don't have to create another front end for them, just make the required changes to the existing version.

I definitely think its better in terms of maintenance headaches down the track.

Yes you can do this no problem. tables. Just create a new Access database and add the links to the back end tables. Then add the forms/reports you want in it. You might find this easier to implement in the short term and will help you get to grips with how the FE/BE thing works.

But I agree with mcalex. It tends to be much easier to maintain one front end and copy it than two if users have an overlap in requirements.
