Recently I did a major no-no and installed a MS Office Prof 2010 trial without first removing 2007. Really screwed up Access database so uninstalled 2010 and 2007; then installed 2007 again, but the database (my movie database with over 750 titles) is no longer functioning properly. The database is my catalog of all those productions in my video library.....

Any suggestions or ideas? Short of re-creating the database and that's not feasible.

Thanks for any help

No-No: No backup? One of the 10 commandments?
Have you tried Compact and repair?
I would make 2 backups first. (maybe it's silly, but I would do it)
Then try compact and repair one version in Access 2007, if no result try it with the other version in a non-trial version 2010?
You can never tell Tinkerbell, maybe it works swell.
If not, I leave it others to give you more suggestions.

How about making a new blank database and import all objects from the old one.

And of course don't forget to set the Trusted Location.

What are the specific problems that you are encountering?

Catalina

Thanks for the idea. The problem I'm having has to do with functions that I used in the 2007 version are gone from the 2007 I reinstalled. If I try the 2010 version again, I cringe at the thought of further compromising the database. Not to mention my hard drive.

After installing the 2010 and then removing it and returning to the 2007, MS sent a notice to me (while I was working with the database) that the 2007 application was so corrupted that my hard drive was in danger of being destroyed, that I should uninstall and then reinstall the 2007. I did this (using my 2007 app CD) and that's where I am now.

Any ideas are SO appreciated.

Ummm, no such message should have come from Microsoft. Installing and/or REinstalling Access would do nothing to your harddrive... A virus, malware now *that* would do something.

Next, no functions were removed, you may need to install the SP's. Or in your case reinstall.

So let's start with what version is installed now? What version of Windows do you have? And if Windows 7, is that 32 bit or 64 bit. What Anti-Virus are you running?

Yeah, I have several recent backups...none of them work as they did before my No-No. Also did a number of compact and repairs. I'm guessing something in my system is compromising the application. But system stuff is a mystery to me. I do know that MS interrupted my work in the database when I was trying to get the database back to where it should be. A message was sent that the application corrupt and my hard drive was likely to die...said I should uninstall and then reinstall the 2007, which I did. The reinstalled app isn't crashing...it just doesn't work right.

Thanks for the suggestions

Try a backup version that should be ok on some other PC?
Then you know whether it's the PC or the Prog.

I'm on XP 32 bit and with the anti-virus the laptop came with. It's a Dell Latitude factory re-conditioned. The message surely seemed to come from Microsoft, with a link that took me to the correct site, where I watched their diagnostics being run. The results were shown in a number of sections with tick boxes marked for each one. That's where the suggestion to remove the app and reinstall came from. If this has to do with malware it's a very sophisticated one.

It does seem that the hard drive has been compromised or the reinstall would not be lacking some of the functions...primarily with ole objects.

Sorry, but I'm ignorant on the correct terminology. What is SP and how to find and install it? Thanks

P.S. Just read a different thread "Access 2007 and 2010" and am now wondering if going on to 2010 might be a solution after all???? What are your thoughts. No purchase of 2010 has yet been made and my income is Social Security, so must be cautious with $$. I still have the 2010 trial downloaded by MS, but their help folks tell me I cannot install a second time. Can you give me some guidance? Thanks

That message is bogus and *designed* to make you *think* it comes from Microsoft but it doesn't. PLEASE see the name of the Anti-Virus as Dell installs different ones at different times.

Now, let's not get ahead ourselves here. I am not suggesting you purchase anything till we determine the issue. While we wait for you to come back with the name of the Anti-Virus please download and run...

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

DELETE what it finds, as it is Malware (or worse). If you find difficulty downloading and/or running post back here for further instructions.

No anti-virus on system, but my home network is protected by anti-virus and malware that the computer tech installed when setting up the network. Don't know how to get into the network, so I downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials for the laptop I'm using.

Next, I went to the link you sent...no malware or virus found, but several areas of instability. The abbrev used aren't understood by me, so chose to back off from paying the fee they would charge to fix the not understood issues.

The link took me to "Reimage PC Repair Online"...is that correct? Could I have inadvertently gotten to wrong site?:confused:

I went to http://www.malwarebytes.org/. I'll try the link in your last message and let you know...

Tried http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free
took me to the right site. When clicked download button, took me to Major Geeks site. Adware on the site is too confusing and I'm now giving it up. The last time I followed through got me into a complete and thorough scan of my computer. I do not want to do this again.

Thanks for all your time and efforts, but I must give up now. It's making me crazy....
