Question MS Office popup window

When any Office program starts there is a brief window that pops up. Is there a command line switch to turn this off?

So no, there's no switch for turning it off. Access isn't an executable program (like you can do with Visual Studio).

It's rare that I ever contradict a VIP (actually I've never done it before) but for Access 03 and 07 for SPECIFIC databases at least you can effectively get rid of this.

Create a Bitmap and place it in the directory where your access mdb or mde is located.

Except for the extension name this bitmap file EXACTLY the same as the mdb or mde.

Now when you open your mdb file the bitmap will appear instead of the Office Spash Screen.

I don't know whether this is the same for specific excel and word files but I've got it working in Access 2007 for some specific applications that I've put together.

So if you created a 1 by 1 bitmap and named and placed it appropriately the splash would appear to disappear.

Just tried it with an excel file in Excel 2007 and doesn't change the splash screen although in my version of Office 2007 if you open a pre-saved excel file there is no splash screen anyway.

Thinking about it, I wonder if it shows for mde' or packaged dbs?

I've just been working on Inkscape getting a couple of splash screens together for my applications. Seems to be working quite nicely on my main mde.

As far as I can tell in Access 2007 unless you create a bmp and name and place it appropriately you will always get the default Access 07 splash mde or otherwise.

I am now reading up on Inkscape to see how I can design nicer bitmaps.

I have noticed that when using Access 2007 if the file is a MDB file and there is already an MDB open then the splash reverts to the standard Access 07 file.

MDEs seem to operate as expected in that even with other mdb files open the splash screen still works specific to the file still works. (just discovered that now)

Looks like that's a little undocumented Access trick

I have noticed that the MS Office 2010 splash screens have a little animation in them but am hazarding a guess that they were made with MS Expression.

Hi

Have you looked at my splashbuilder tool that lets you create and deploy splash screens to you application? You can set an opacity and time to show. This shows first without the access splash screen and then opens the form you choose.

A new version is out on Friday.
