That's because the UK is trying to beat the USA for stupidity. They will never do it.

Yes, John in one sense you are right. However, and this is a big however. There is much money sent to other countries by the USA that never reaches the needy. It sticks to the hands of the crooked leader.

That would certainly be an argument for letting NGO's do the job of distributing the money.

Another problem is that many organizations that handle overseas aid projects have executives with gigantic salaries and expense accounts. Large amounts disappear into their pockets instead and never reach the people it was intended for.

Catalina, I know a person who worked for Oxfam. He was on over £100,000 a year, first class travel and hotels. Nice work if you can get it.

If the economy gets any worse in this country we may very well be the Losers and Scroungers who are receiving foreign aid...

But to answer your initial question, I do not believe we should be giving aid unless we can have a direct input into how the aid is spent and can account for every penny...

Throwing good money after bad to feed the third world is nonsense, we should be investing in their infrastructure to help them support themselves... Birth Control would be a good start, the slower the population expands the easier it will be to feed....

This thread is not about the pro's and con's of Mr Farage.

The question is the hundreds of millions we give away to other countries for so called aid.
For example, we give £700million to India in aid, but they give £400million in aid to other countries thus making a profit of £300million in the process.

How much aid money gets to where it is needed?

We see these pleading TV ads to give £2 a month to save a life. Count the billions given over the years, why hasn't it improved the situation.

It hasn't improved the situation because there's no money in improving the situation to a self-sustainable level. Those "help" telethons make money off of helping them survive, but not prosper to a level of independence. Why would anyone human be in anything other than for profit? It really makes me sick to think about sometimes.
