It would be interesting if someone could produce evidence that Jesus existed, instead of relying on heresay and folklore and the writings of a probably drunk scribe.Its a bit like believing in Santa Claus yet knowing deep down its is all a sham.

Religion is no different yet millions worldwide believe it to be true, what actually possesses usually sane people to believe such obvious claptrap? Religion turns them from normal people into religious freaks.

Exactly. The world was a much cruder place. I have little doubt that some of the social policies instigated under religious rules had immediate benefits for many people at a time when nasty people got away with anything.

Where religion and indeed any other political philosophy oversteps the mark is the point where they insist that an oligarchy is able to decree the absolute truth of all matters through a divine inspiration that cannot be questioned.

Absolute rule is the foundation tenet of fascism and it is fundamental to the structure of the monotheistic faiths.

My friend Glaxom: What about your religious views. You do know that Atheism is a religion not different from the rest. You are simply preaching a religion just like I put forth Christianity With One exception, Atheism leans toward Islam in how it and you are very intolerant of other religions.

There was a three part series called The Life of Mohammed on BBC earlier this year. It featured interviews with history and religious "experts" talking about his life. He did not appear to be quite as bad as Bladerunner paints , but was certainly a man of his time.

I give you the book published by Bill O'Reilly
that he researched about Jesus of Nazareth. He was real and your denial of him, his history with the Roman empire is something I don't understand. Here is the Url for the book. "Killing Jesus" a very telling book. As I said, there is NOTHING religious in it. It is strictly a historical record.

All of the definitions of religion that I have read put the belief in a supreme being as a requirement in the first definition, and if giving other definitions refer to an organised body of people, thus I do not see how atheism can fall into the definition of a religion.

I have mentioned earlier in the thread that I am an agnostic in that I cannot prove that there is or is not a supreme being, just like everybody else actually. What I cannot accept is the full teachings of any of the religions that I have come across or read about.

I do wonder , if there is a supreme being that wants us to believe in him/her , why is it such a poor communicator.

I'm Agnostic for all the same reasons. I don't believe in a "god" so much as I do that there is something after death. Energy doesn't die, it just changes shape. What that shape is, we'll have to wait and see.

I looked into lots of other religions. At 35 I became a Baptist preacher. For the most I enjoy my life. I get to travel all over the US and a few foreign countries and get paid for it
I believe everything I preach, what I preach comes from the KJV Bible. I have lost count on how people I have help. I don’t try to force anybody to believe what I do.. I show them what the Bible says, and how that have helped me/

Sounds like a typical Roman Catholic, a although in the UK, the catholic priests prefer little boys than girls.

Hardly a month goes by without an exposé of such goings on by Catholics.
