Super example of making something simple very complicated. Simply cover all roof tops in solar panels, that combined with some local and decentralized storage will reduce the strain on the power grid and cover 80+% of all household energy needs with clean "Zero-Emissions" energy.
That is with today's technology, no future era stuff, but NOW.... or as soon as the solar panels can be produced and installed which might take a few weeks /months / years/decades? (depending on production cap)

Solar and wind are most definitely the best ways to go. However, it's always good to have a backup plan!
