I sort of knew I had to do it, I felt it was important in view of the situation, that little message coming through out of the blue.

I got some nice replies, some of them completely unexpected!

All I said was "Happy new year" to everyone I've been in contact with this past year!

Why not send me an SMS message! My phone number is 07747 018 875

Cheers Tony...

Tony, is that an international number or would I need a prefix to send to you from the USA?

I tried to send. Don't know if I did it right because it was my first try for international. It didn't "barf" at me but the phone is my first "modern" phone after living with an old flip-phone for a long time. I don't always know quite how to make it "do its thing."

For international calls, do I need the + sign in front or should I use the 0 that was originally in the number? Because it looks like my attempt didn't go through.

+44 7747 018 875

or I believe if you want to prefix it with zeros you do it like this but I'm not 100% sure :-

00 44 7747 018 875

00 instead of + if + is difficult to find on your keypad.

If you are using a cell (which im sure is the case), then all you need is the + sign and the country code.

I copied and pasted Tony's number as he provided it and it went without a hitch...

I tried again using the plus sign. But if that fails, I will try the double-zero prefix.

At the moment, IF you replied, I wouldn't see it because it's on charge downstairs and here in my time zone, it is close to - or probably, well past - my bedtime. But the phone with that number IS able to do full Android functionality and is 5G compatible. I just don't know squat about it yet.
