Anyone heard of Chris Rock?

Because it's not abusive

I thought this was the reason...

"I just didn't know if he was using the term showing his mutual disrespect for Chris Rock"

I don't understand how the above can be true with the term being used in a non-derogatory way  Please explain...

*sigh* I think you are just being difficult for the sake of it.;)

It seems it's ok by you for Mr Rock to come over as a guest in the UK, and call 70,000 people "motherfu*kers" on live TV - yet you seem to have difficulty with a word I used which is nowhere near the level of Mr Rocks choice of word.
Perhaps you approve of Mr Rock's choice of words and are trying to defend him. Are you a RockLover?

I think you've flogged this topic enough now.

Ahhh, but the aforementioned "Mr. Rock" is not a member of this online Community, filled with fine, upstanding, pleasant, courteous, non-judgemental, brilliant individuals, and is therefore not held to the same exacting standards of conduct...

Neither is George Bush, thank Christ!.......

coming back in on this - Yes I would find the term ****** - uncomfortable - (I am not black so not really a good source to comment on) , however for someone to swear on live TV before any watershed - is not on - irrespective of whose country it is -if this was done on US TV , someone would get a bollocking somewhere along the line.

this is not the langauge I want to hear on at tea time , after 9 oclcok - fine -I have some control over what my child watches upto 9 oclock - but allowing this to happen - wrong , now other live performances have also sweared , and the presenter had to aplogises as did the acts

surely this is good manners , now I don't have a thing against swearing - and comedy - but at the right time and place
Bill Connolly swears like a trooper, but its in the right place, right time - and also rarely at people more at situations and himself,

I ramble on again ....g

"any ****** Yank that comes over here and on live TV at 5:15pm, calls the audience a bunch of motherf*ckers deserves all the abuse he gets." [from the UK press and media]

Col

Unfortunately this country is so PC now that you cannot say anything without some liberal dogooder jumping up and down telling you that you are wrong.

In my childs school they have banned the Nursey Ryhme Baa Baa Black Sheep in case black children in the class find it offensive ! I meand for Christ sake the children in the class are 4 years old, they do not even know what the word offensive means or be able to spell it

The UK is filled with all these dogooders, the same dogooders who petition the courts to get murderes, rapists, and Child Molesters off with cautions

I can remember in one case a Judge told a ten year old girl that she was asking for it

Criminals and dogooders spout Human Rights rubbish, but give no thought for the infringement of the Human Rights of the person that they have just abused, raped, or tortured

I agree, if a so called comedian called Chris Rock, (who can be funny sometimes) comes over here and calles us all MF's, then I say ship him back to the sub continent where he belongs!

Sorry I have ranted long enough.....I shall just go and take my pills:)

Anyway, this story is not about me. It's about a loud filthy mouthed ****** Yank.

Col, you dont have to defend yourself to these folks: tell them 'yes, I did make a 'racist' comment and it's culturally acceptable in the UK- get over it"

Americans have this complex that everyone else's culture has to be acceptable to them or it's wrong. Look at our world politics, for the Lord's sake! We have decided that our definition of freedom and equality and government is the ONLY right one, and we are on a Global mission to eradicate everyone different than us.

All men are created equal, it's just that Americans are more equal than others.

I think Stephen Colbert said it best in his roast of Pres. Bush, "I believe everyone has the right to his own religion – be it Hindu, Jew or Muslim. I believe there are infinite paths to accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior." That mentality branches from subjects of freedom and equality to culture, race relations, and democratic government. It extends from the top of the government all the way down to the population.

There's America for ya. You don't have to defend yourself to that hypocrisy.

Sometimes it's fun to tag along with Daniella - but he was being very "American" about the word '******' - you know, like in the song "Eve of Destruction" where it says "You kill your next door neighbour, but don't forget to say grace".
That line sums up the USA's attitude to things.

To all and sundry. I've never tried in this whole thread to condone Chris Rock's language. If he was on these forums I'd be difficult to him about his language. But he isn't, so I have to make do with Col. :)

We've flipped from one extreme to the other. Americans criticised for not making any stand about 'controversial' words to Americans criticised for poking their noses in when they do.

Those backing Col up should go and look up the term 'strawman argument'. ;)

and then I'd get a straight answer to a straight question. Which is all I'm asking for. Nothing more.

If it's culturally acceptable to use racist comments in the UK, then just say so.

It's a simple question: how can the term '******' be used in a disrepectful way without it being racial. If no-one wants to answer the question, then fair enough.

I think it's both disrespectful and racial, however I think Col had every right to use it when showing his contempt for a disrespectful display by Mr. Rock.

Perhaps if were past 9 pm, Chris' comment may have been taken more as a joke.

Anyway, I think this thread has been run dry now.

Is it culturally acceptable to have American presenters openly talk about the size of the crack in their ass on primetime tv?

I used the term as a descriptor - he's a ****** and thats it, I made no mention of it being racial. If you (or anyone else) thinks it's racial then thats fine, you can think what you like (you do anyway whether it's right or wrong).

I don't know why you're making such a meal of it.

It was Tess that brought it up, going on about 'disrespectful' etc etc.

Is it disrespectful for the USA to hold people without trial, treat them like shit for years just because they have a middle eastern look? or is that normal?

Col

Bored I guess. The lack of reaction to your language seemed to concern some, so I thought I'd pursue the subject. Now I see that those concerns were a little hollow so I guess it's time to find something else to talk about.

By the way I never accused you of anything, I was just asking you some questions. If you just want to engage in a monologue why don't you just write a blog

Others should go lookup the term 'misdirection' :D

I'm sure we will. You're not one to miss much. You'd better make the most of it, I won't be logging in so frequently after next tuesday

and a 'blog' is?. . . . . . . . I've heard the term but have no idea what it is:confused: (honest!!)

That's a shame (honest! :p ), we'll have to make sure not to get too heated next week. ;)

Thanks for that, I'm not too well up on modern things. I only found out what 'bluetooth' was recently when I progressed from maps to satnav.
I wondered why so many people had these things in their ear (like Lt Ahura in Star Trek).

Think how good it'll be when we can see colour pictures on the TV or when we listen to the wireless, it won't take 5 mins to warm up.

Col

It would be thought of as disrespectful if I said that where I live.
And, geez.... I was just asking a question, that's all.
I believe I even said I didn't think you were racist or anything which is why I was confused that you used the term and thought there may be some cultural differences in language to explain it.

I wasn't attacking ANYONE. But now I'm sorry I even asked! I guess I'll just go back to being a culturally ignorant American since that's the reputation we all have over here anyway.

A "blog" dear Col, is short for "web log". I think they started out as rather online journals or diaries that people would write. But I think they've transformed over the years to just whatever the people feel like talking about at the time. Some of them are specifically pointed at particular subjects too.

My friend has a blog that I absolutely love to read. He is honest and witty and intelligent. He makes me laugh... I love him.
Oh... he's British too. Married an American lady. Wonderful father and husband and fantastic friend.

It will make you smile.
