Hi,
i am new to access. Anyone know why my .mdb file size Growing. Even when i delete the data from table and done with the compact and repair. i am doing my first small project with one table and 10 querys and 5 repots. each time i edit the query or report the file the size goes on increasing.
i have not more then 100 records in my database. i only edit my records when ever i edit my records .mdb file size grows so any one could help me to make it constant.
plz help

Are you using temp tables, or putting graphics into your reports?

no graphics , its just one table with 24 feilds and 100 records, only those records will be edited. no more new records are added..
at first its only 455kb , next went to 1.7 mb nex to ............. 4.3mb and its increasing..........

At that rate of growth, it'll soon take over all the storage capacity in the world :D What happens if you open the file, do a compact and repair and then close it?

Size file remains the same. But when i create a new database with the same table and querys etc. it shows me like 455kb at first and then when ever i try to modify the query or something it starts growing........

Since it starts at about 455kb - can you get it to that point again, zip it with WinZip (or something like it) and post it here? I'd like to take a look to see what is going on.

i dont knwo how to do that, do u have anything idea recover to original size

1. Create a new MDB file.

2. Go to FILE > Get External Data > Import

Import all objects into the new mdb file.

3. Close the mdb file

4. Zip it

5. In the forum window here where you post a new reply click the Go Advanced button

6. Go down the page and find the MANAGE ATTACHMENTS button. Click on it

It should be self-explanatory from there.

Now it has gone to 3.4mb form 1.73 , i did wat u ask me(FILE > Get External Data > Import ) but no use . is there any other way .....

What is the file size if you create a new db and import definitions only (File/Get External Data/Import, then select the Import Tables/Definitions Only radio button)? If you can, re-enter the data manually, checking file size frequently.

If there is too much to manually re-enter, then Export the table data from the original database to text files (File/Export and choose Text Files in the combo). If you export them, you will also have the data for manual re-entry

Now import the data table by table, remembering to import the one side table data before the many. (FIle/Get External Data/Import and select Text Files in the combo). What happens to the file size as each table is populated?

Edit the data as you described earlier in the thread, checking file size frequently. What happens to file size, and when?
