It was announced on our local news that Bill Gates has given £15 million to the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine towards research into malaria, especially in pregnant women.
It is apparently not his first donation to the establishment.

So I wont complain for a while.

And exactly how prevalent is malaria in pregnant woman in Liverpool? From my recollections, I would hardly describe Liverpool as tropical!

Bill Gates has given substanial amounts to a number or organizations over the years, primarily dealing with world health problems.
He is not especially stingy with his billions.

BTW according to Forbes magazine richest men poll which came out this week, Bill is no the richest man in the world. Get you funding applications in quickly.

FYI The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine was the first such establishment in the world, set up by 2 shipping magnates to investigate the illnesses contracted by their sailors, it is still the world's leading research estabishment into tropical diseases.

Or indeed to many other charities, Bill Gates is one of (if not the) most generous contributors to charity. He has donated almost $30bn (yes billion) of his fortune to charity and even though personally I do think Microsoft products are too expensive I do doff my cap to Bill Gates for this.

IIRC he once said he plans to give away almost every penny he has to charity before he dies and will only (mmm only ) leave his kids $10m each.
