Extra page in report... but page size is ok.

I've got a report that, depending on some VBA criteria, could be 1, 2, 4 or 6 pages. If the criteria is met for the 6 page report, it comes out fine. For any other of the possibilities, however, the report has an additional blank page.

I'm using 8.5 x 11 paper with 0.25 inch margins... my report is 8 inches wide in design view and there are no errors or prompts.

What is going on?

1. Make sure the report is slightly LESS than 8 inches in design view because the .25" margins make it exactly 8.5 but the current printer might not be able to handle .25" margins. Some need slightly larger margins.

2. Also check to make sure you don't have too long of a report that it is going over to a final page.

Can you post a couple of screenshots maybe? (upload here and don't put to imageshack, or the like as I can't see them at work). Do one of the design view and one/or two of the way the report looks (if my number one item above does not work).

I couldn't fit the entire design view report in the screenshot... but, below 'correctiveaction2' the cycle repeats itself with 'nonconformity3' and 'correctiveaction3' etc. The page breaks work out to a total of 6 pages if the VBA criteria is satisfied... that is, there are 3 nonconformities (2 pages per NC). If there are no nonconformities, VBA only allows the header, footer and the first 1.5 inches or so of the report... so it isn't even close to spilling over onto another page.

The report view is in .doc so the pretty lines are missing, but you get the picture... 2 pages and it should be 1.

Help.

After looking at it, I'm almost convinced that it is your printer that is unable to handle a margin of .25 on at least one side. I've had that issue before. I think I had one that had to be at least .39 on one side. I would make a COPY of the report and then do some resizing of the controls and sliding them to the left just to see.

OK. I changed the margins to 0.5"... still 2 pages, though. Could it be the VBA code? I've combed through the code lines a number of times and I'm pretty sure it's correct (a little lengthy, though...).

Maybe, but hard to say. Any chance of uploading a copy of the database so we can see if we can spot it? Remove any sensitive info first, compact it and zip it, if you can do so.

Can't upload it... sorry. Wish I could... it's 175 MB worth of sensitive info =(

I can show you the VBA code, if that could help... it's currently an 'on load' event that determines which fields to display on the report and, therefore, how many pages.

I was just figuring you would remove all data. I can put in bogus stuff to test with.

You can try, don't know if it will help or not.

Good point... I'll do that... I need to figure how to compact it, though.

For 2000-2003 go to TOOLS > DATABASE UTILITIES > COMPACT AND REPAIR

For 2007 go to the Big Round Office Button > MANAGE > COMPACT AND REPAIR

Open Forms.Reviews and, in the first record, click on 'Review Report' at the top of the screen... that's the report I'm having trouble with. The nonconformity code for the first record is "N00" so the review report should be 1 page.

I'll be able to take a look in a couple of hours. I don't have 2007 here at work and I'm almost off and headed home. (takes a while to get home on the bus though :) )

I'm going home now, too... I'll check back tomorrow...

you rock, thanks a million.

Well, I have to say - I am stumped at the moment. I tried looking as long as I had time available last night and I see no good reason why it is doing this.

Well it's good to hear that I'm not alone.

Prior to this VBA nonsense, I had 4 different reports... the review report button that you clicked last night ran a macro to determine which report to open based on the values in the form.

I'm just trying to compact things a bit... I figure 1 report with some VBA criteria is better than 4 reports and a macro. What do you think?

It would be if you can get it to work right. If not, I'd maybe go with a couple of different ones.
