Referencing a control on a subform on a Tab

Oh well. Worth asking the obvious sometimes :) Speaking of the obvious: we've covered the form and subform control names, but what about the textbox control txtSITENAME ? And assuming that you have already checked that, have you tried debugging the value returned by the reference...

Referencing a control on a subform on a Tab

Just on the off-chance...have you enabled the VBA reference for the Excel Object Library?

    Table - Is it used?

If you have Access 2003+ you should be able to view object dependencies for the tables in question. From (dim) memory, you do this by right clicking on the table in the database window and selecting the object dependencies item from the right-click menu. Sorry to be vague....I use A2k at work...

What are the top things you would like to see in a future version of Access?

I'm sorry I missed the chance to have input but these two items strike me as being the most interesting new tools that might happen. I have wanted both on more than one occasion. It's encouraging to hear that they were open to the idea. These would actually make me want to upgrade from...

Form with 2 parts (top fields are static, bottom fields permit new records)

Is there any code somewhere that is opening up the form in dataentry mode? Is the subform's record source set correctly? Are the master-child link field settings still correctly in the properties of the subform control? Otherwise, I'd prolly have to look again at it to find the glitch.

    DRM and PC Gaming

Absolutely true. And yet they persist in alienating their customer with restrictions that have zero impact on piracy in order to....what...fight piracy? Puh-lease.

Form with 2 parts (top fields are static, bottom fields permit new records)

You probably set the form's DataEntry property to true somehow...? If not, check to make sure your form's recordsource is still set appropriately.

Heh...looks like I'm not the only one getting riled up about excessive DRM on PC games. :) http://www.amazon.com/Spore-Pc/dp/B000FKBCX4

newbie want to get basics right

I think a little more description of your real world situation would help enormously. Let's say you have a table called 'tblRooms' This table should have one record for each room. And each record/room needs an identifier that allows the database to know exactly what room you're referring to...

    Increment number in a field

Gemma is correct, but you can calculate gapless numerical sequences, on the fly, in queries....though it can be a time consuming task if there are large numbers of records in the underlying tables. Accordingly, the score calculated for a given record may change if other records are deleted...

Form with 2 parts (top fields are static, bottom fields permit new records)

No. An autonumber field cannot have duplicates, and you should NOT be using an autonumber field to represent some kind of running total. An autonumber field is intentionally meaningless except to act as a way for the db to uniquely identify a record. Instead, for what you want to achieve, you...

Can I post a project on this site?

Have you tried compiling your database? If that kicks up an error it might allow you to fix it and enable the succesful transfer of the tables to sql server.

    Sending query to Excel.

I think the graph engine is the same but the Excel implementation via the wizard is more robust IME and allows more customization than the Access equivalent. I tear my hair out sometimes trying to make scatterplots work correctly in Access 2K. Not that I think the graphing engine in Excel is...

Form with 2 parts (top fields are static, bottom fields permit new records)

Ah, found the problem. Go to design view of tblSpeciesSightings. Look at the default values for the SurveyID and SpeciesID fields. You have them being populated with a 0 by default. You have referential integrity enabled, preventing records with a 0 value being allowed because there are no pk...

Form with 2 parts (top fields are static, bottom fields permit new records)

On the subform control, open the properties and look at the data tab. You should see the following in the frist three properties Source Object: speciesSightings Link Child Fields: SurveyID Link Master Fields: SurveyID Make sure that on you main form, you have a textbox bound to the SurveyID...

    Crosstab With Text as Values

I think your grouping options for text are limited to First or Last. After all, there's no way to average or sum a word, now is there? The only alternative I can think of, is to write a function that takes multiple text values, combines them into one delimited string, and then use that function...
