Pat Hartman has left the building

Pat left because I changed the status quo at the site. It was not because of @KitaYama, @The_Doc_Man or @ColinEssex. Instead, I implemented a new set of rules that proved to be unpalatable. Any actions @The_Doc_Man took regarding moderation were merely the result of following my revised...

I have my reasons, which will remain private. And they align with protecting the value of this property.

Pat Hartman has left the building

After about 25 years and 48,000 posts, Pat has decided to leave. She has asked me to delete all her posts and delete her profile, which I have now done. I thought you guys should know because she was a prominent member here, and also a super moderator.

    Watercooler v political forum

Avoid politics. I can get up to 2 years in prison for things people say on here. Like I said, if we don't keep a lid on it, I will close The Watercooler, ban members and eventually make the forum read-only, making no more discussion possible. I have no intention of risking my own safety through...

    Click Farms

Personally, I am looking forward to reinstating the Politics forum once there is a change of government and a repeal of the Online Safety Act. I liked the free-flowing discussion, even if it got a little heated at times. Meanwhile, we have to exercise caution to avoid site closure.

Due to a legal and Ofcom threat from a certain individual, I am closing this thread and removing all reference to their name, and any other name I deem appropriate.

    Watercooler v political forum

Whether or not it complies, the politics section was removed to reduce risk. Those users who continuing to discuss politics here means they are a risk if they remain members.

There is a complaints procedure already, where you click Report to report a specific post.

    Watercooler v political forum

Discussing politics in The Watercooler instead of the (now closed) Politics section leads to the same risk. It's not rocket science.

Seeking a Moderator for the Moderators

It really is quite simple. A mod of mods does exactly what a standard moderator does, except to a much smaller group of people. The moderation doesn't have to be instant, so timezones don't matter. In many cases it will involve dealing with reported posts, where a member sends in a complaint...

Seeking a Moderator for the Moderators

Unfortunately, it is not like with a speed limit when you are knowing you are committing an offence. There are so many grey areas.

Updated Code of Conduct thread in The Watercooler

Following the introduction of the UK Online Safety Act, the forum must now comply with its requirements. Accordingly, I’ve updated the Code of Conduct thread, which you can find here: https://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/threads/code-of-conduct-guidelines.313541/
